Fly Me to Vietnam

By Lily Barton

Please fly me to Vietnam

On a gentle dragon

Of smooth, blue-green scales

Right next to a woodsy place

Where slaves run free

And the dove's soft chortles sound like music.

I'll feel calm

If I fly to that fantasy.

With world peace surrounding me.

Lily Barton wrote this sweet poem when she was ten years old. She wrote it prior to a homeland trip to Vietnam, the land of her birth. Lily's mother describes her as "a continual inspiration to her family." Her poem was first published in the Chao Ban Vietnam Adoption Newsletter.
