Report on Intercountry Adoption, edited by AnnaMarie Merrill, is is an excellent introduction to the complex, emotional process and decisions involved in international adoption. You will find the Report to be a useful compilation of professional articles on international and special need adoption issues, as well as a resource for finding an agency for your adoption. The author's compassion and commitment to the many children waiting for their forever families is evident in its preparation.

These 40+ articles are invaluable for professionals, prospective parents and adoptive families who wish to delve into the multifaceted aspects of intercountry adoption. Professionals will find it is useful guide for discussions with prospective adoptive families, seminars, and post adoption support. Families beginning or in the process will find it an excellent introduction to the steps they will encounter on their adoption journey. Topics range from making the adoption decision; choices in the adoption process; considerations for older, singles or gay adoptive parents; culture shock; medical concerns; to post adoption adjustment.

The second half of the report provides a listing of selected adoption agencies and liaisons in the United States. Agencies are listed by country in which they have programs (e.g., Korea, Vietnam, etc.), by state, by name, and by special services (e.g., single parent information). Most agencies selected for listing in the report have been licensed for two years, have (or will have) 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, and have had programs in a particular country for at least one year. Information for each agency is either provided directly to ICC or is available in agency newsletters.

If you would like to receive this unique agency listing and resource compilation, see the ordering information below. Updates available during the year are an important part of the ICC function, and may be obtained along with the report for an additional fee. Read our Interview with AnneMarie Merrill
