Ling-Li and the Phoenix Fairy: A Chinese Folktale is an intricate story of a young women betrothed to be married and the beautiful robe she makes for her wedding. Ling-Li is both beautiful and a hard worker, which show in the lovely wedding robe she embroiders. Everyone seems to want it - the deceitful wealthy girl of the village, the magpies and even the Phoenix Fairy, Queen of the Birds. In the end, the others join with her or get their comeupance. But the dress is lost, replaced by lovely flowers.
