Review by Allison Martin
In this allegory father mole is so proud of his lovely daughter that
he wishes her to marry the most powerful husband in the universe. He asks
the Sky, the Sun, the Clouds and the Wind but each one says they are not
the most powerful and refers him onward to the next. Finally he comes
to the Mireuk - a ancient statue of Buddha - who says he is afraid of
moles! So in the end, father mole marries his daughter to another mole.
The ending is typical of many Korean tales in the belief that like belongs
with like, and the best is often close to home. The illustrations are
simple and child-like, but humorous.
