Review by Karen Ledbetter, BellaOnline's Adoption Editor Christian musician, Steven Curtis Chapman, and his wife, Mary Beth, wrote this delightful children’s book. Mary Beth’s brother, Jim Chapman, created the bright, colorful, entertaining illustrations. The heart-warming story is based on the Chapman’s adoption of their first little girl from China. This whimsical story begins when Dot, a curious ladybug, hears a strange sound while eating her breakfast one morning. Of course, a curious ladybug must investigate; and Dot finds a bundle of rags. Inside the bundle is a beautiful face with almond-shaped eyes! Dot and her new friend soon find themselves at a place “where babies come to be found.” Dot promises to stay with her little friend’s side. Finally the day arrives when Dot’s new friend is placed in the waiting arms of her new family, and a “thing with two humongous wings” took Dot and her friend to their new home. What can I say? I absolutely love this book! I shared it with the first-graders at my daughter’s school, and they loved it, too! We had as much fun looking at the illustrations (especially Dot’s shoes) as we did reading the story. This book definitely belongs in the library of any family who has adopted from China and would make an excellent addition to the library of any family, no matter what country they adopted from, or if they even adopted at all. It would make a wonderful gift for any occasion. |
