Review by Allison Martin This is a wonderful book for parents who wish to talk to their children about their feelings for their birthparents! Created to reassure young children adopted from China that thinking about their birth parents is just fine, this lovely book can be read by any family with young children adopted from Asia. It is gently affirming of your child's curiosity about their past. The text is very simple, sweet and evocative - with plenty of room for children and their parents to till in their own details and imaginings. The oil paintings of stylized Chinese images add another important dimension to the text, filling in some of ht unspoken thoughts with beautiful images. The moon in the sky over both countries forms a connection around the world. This book strikes a nice balance of raising important but difficult topics,
with a dream-like quality of illustrations and words. As it does address
loss, it is probably not a book you will read every night, but it belongs
on your bookshelf for those quiet wondering times. It affirms the love
of the adoptive family, while making it okay to have thoughts of those
left behind." |
